Description
Lechwe are mainly found in marshy areas due to their liking of green grass and aquatic plants.
Lechwe stand 90-100 centimetres (35-39in) at the shoulder and weigh between 70-120 kilograms (150-260lbs). Lechwe are golden brown with a white stomach.
Lechwe bulls have long ringed inward curved horns, whereas cows do not have any horns. Big bulls vary between 23-27 inches. Lechwe’s hind quarters are noticeably higher than the forequarters.
Their gestation period is between 7-8 months and cows calve between July and mid-September.
