The Cape Eland is the largest antelope in Southern Africa. It can weigh in at over 2 000 pounds with an average animal weighing in at between 1 000-1 200 pounds.
It is also the largest spiralled-horn antelope. Both bull and cow carry horns, with the bulls having exceptionally impressive long and thick horns.

Eland cows are greyish-brown in colour and bulls are the same colour until they reach maturity and start becoming a dark grey-blue.
Eland live in big herds of 50-60 animals and, as soon as the younger bulls become sexually mature, they are kicked out of the herd.
