Sable

Sable

Description

Sable antelope are mixed feeders, mainly seen in the early morning and late afternoon. Both bull and cow have scimitar-shaped horns but the bull has significantly thicker and longer horns.

Sable have a gestation period of roughly 9 months and can weigh between 460-520 pounds.

Sable cows vary in colour, from a dark red-brown to black with a white belly, and the males have a distinct black coat with a white belly.

Sable are found in small herds up to 30 animals with one dominant bull. As soon as young bulls start to become sexually mature, the dominant bull chases them out the herd and they form a bachelor herd.

Hunting Information

Sable are tough animals and can make for a very challenging hunt.

Suitable calibers for hunting Sable include the .308-.375 rifles.
